Hair loss, loss of self-confidence
Between the ages of 30 and 40, 7 out of 10 men suffer from alopecia (hair loss). This very frequent manifestation brutally imposes an “old look” on men who can appear aged and tired as a result.
Baldness is most often of genetic origin in humans. Some hair is sensitive to a testosterone derivative: dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Contact between this hormone and genetically sensitive hair prevents it regeneration. Hence its premature final fall. The hair in the crown (head contour) isn’t sensitive to DHT, which explains the persistence of hair in a circle around the skull, even at an advanced age. This is how the genetic factor determines hair cycles. Their longevity is generally short on the balding areas and very long on the lateral and occipital areas (the crown).
Many believe that there are no solutions. However, having abundant hair again is quite possible. In our clinics in Paris and London, adapted and personalized treatments are offered to deal with hair loss.
Before a hair transplant, the doctor recommends several possibilities for non-invasive medical solutions depending on the patient. In general, the trio of effective treatments are: Finasteride, Minoxidil and PlasmaHair. The goal will be to block the shedding and to regrow the hair.
If simple medical treatments aren’t enough to remedy baldness, FUE hair transplant treatment is necessary.
Women are usually, but not always spared this phenomenon and can also benefit from these different treatments.
Dr. Antoni Calmon has developed a hair implant technique by combining it with intraoperative plasma therapy.
The whole principle of FUE hair transplants will be based on taking hair grafts in the area of the donor crown to transplant them to the top of the skull, in the bald areas.
Once implanted, “immortal” transplants, thus named because they come from an area not subject to androgenic alopecia, will no longer fall out.
Hair transplantation or hair transplantation with the FUE method is a simple, effective and long-lasting treatment of baldness. There is no risk of rejection since it is your own hair that is re-implanted.
It is not however for everyone, not recommended in cases of scalp disease, patients on anticoagulants, insufficient sampling area, etc. Don’t hesitate to consult us to find out if you can carry out this treatment with complete peace of mind.
The FUE transplant requires on average 1 full day.
Once the patient is comfortably seated, the doctor and the qualified nurse will go over the course of the day with them.
It is divided into two stages:
1st step: extraction of follicular units. After having shaved the hair in the donor area at the back of the skull to 1mm (a suitable haircut at the hairdresser must be planned beforehand) the doctor and the specialized nurse apply local anaesthesia before starting the extraction of follicular micro-graft units, which include 1 to 4 hairs. The extraction is carried out using a micro-punch which is a very fine cylindrical instrument with a less than 1 mm diameter, which will leave no mark or scar.
The micro-punch is placed around the visible portion of the follicular unit and, by means of a downward pressure accompanied by a rotation movement, it makes an incision in the skin around the follicular unit, to release neighbouring tissue. The follicular unit is then extracted by gentle traction. The follicular micro-graft units are carefully removed one by one by the operator.
Next, the follicular micro-graft units are carefully sorted according to the number of hairs they contain. The follicular micro-graft units containing one or two hairs are used to establish the frontal line (more natural) while those with 3 or 4 hairs allow better density to be restored in the areas on top of the skull.
2nd step: implantation of grafts.
Using a very fine needle, the doctor will make micro-incisions in the scalp to receive the grafts. This phase is delicate and very important because it determines the orientation and the final implantation of the grafted hair. It must be done with subtlety, to give the grafted hair an extremely natural appearance. This is where the FUE technique hair implants make all the difference. Finally, the doctor will insert the follicle into the scalp.
Many advantages arise from micro-hair transplants using the FUE technique:
The follow-up to the intervention is simple: a bandage will be placed on the donor area for 24 hours. Small scabs on the implanted area may appear and can be washed a few days later. Special precautions will have to be observed to avoid friction of the implanted area for a few weeks.
The optimal result of hair implants by FUE technique is obtained after 1 year, the time necessary for the transplant to take well and your hair to grow.
This FUE implant technique is also possible for treating holes in the beard, redesigning sideburns or even creating a beard or a moustache.
Women can also benefit from FUE implants to treat alopecia or overplucked eyebrows, to densify or redraw them.
Results are meant to be permanent. The price varies depending on the number of grafts transplanted.
